Site status & planned features

What you can explore today, what is still a preview, and where Turochamp Emulator goes next.

Public testing build: version 0.6

Last updated . This build is ready to upload for public testing. Planned features below are intentions, with no fixed release dates.

Available in the current draft

  • Play Turochamp: a playable historical reconstruction with legal moves, castling, en passant, promotion choices and automatic draw handling.
  • Game controls: play either colour, flip the board, undo a turn, ask the engine to make your move, start again and export a PGN game record.
  • Visible thinking: candidate moves, searched material ratios and a breakdown of positional scores, with search-limit disclosure.
  • Keyboard access: one Tab stop for the chessboard, arrow-key movement, labelled legal destinations, accessible replay slider text and focus handling at replay boundaries.
  • Clear results: prominent check warnings, checkmate/draw dialogues and a persistent result banner when reviewing the board.
  • Historical replays: the Turochamp–Glennie game and all six Deep Blue–Kasparov 1997 games, with playback controls, a match game selector, short commentary and a downloadable six-game PGN.
  • Learning and history: articles on Turing and Turochamp, the Turing Test, computer-chess history and how chess computers think, including a minimax demonstration.
  • Sources and transparency: a bibliography, reconstruction notes and a link to ELIZA Emulator.
  • Site presentation: walnut and boxwood colours, responsive layouts and offline browsing/play with local game assets. Adverts, the referral banner and external source links require internet access.
  • Console-only advertising: a 320 × 50 Adsterra advert and a 160 × 90 referral banner beside each console, moving below it on small screens. Other pages have no advertising placements.
  • Search preparation: canonical links for turochampemulator.com, sitemap.xml and robots.txt.

Started, but not complete

  • Historical fidelity: the engine uses a bounded reconstruction of the surviving procedure. It is not an exact reproduction of Turing’s manual calculations; interpretation choices and search limits are documented.
  • Tri-dimensional chess: a board-layout preview with a view control. Legal moves and a playable game are not implemented.
  • Chess Reinvented: introductory Battle Chess and Killer Chess coverage, with space reserved for an interactive feature. These games are not currently emulated.

Next: review for the first public release

  • Compare further positions with the published hand analysis, including castling bonuses, rounding and hypothetical mobility.
  • Review article claims, dates and references for consistency.
  • Continue screen-reader, additional-browser and real-device testing. Basic keyboard navigation and focus checks have passed in Chromium.
  • Configure hosting, HTTPS and redirects; verify advertising delivery and check the site on its live domain.

Planned feature additions

  • Expanded retro-chess features: richer Battle Chess, Killer Chess and related coverage, using original or appropriately licensed visuals and exploring interactive demonstrations.
  • Playable tri-dimensional chess: select and document an established post-TOS ruleset, then add legal moves, movable attackboards and a tutorial with original graphics and branding.

The first public release can centre on the playable Turochamp reconstruction and its educational material. The larger features above extend the original vision in later updates.
